HISTRIONIC PERSONALITY DISORDER

(HDP) is characterized by a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking. People with this disorder strive to be the center of attention. They can use a variety of attention-seeking behaviors to achieve their desired emotional fulfillment and they often do it in socially inappropriate situations. Their lives are full of drama and they can appear flighty and fickle. This behavior often prevents them from having truly intimate relationships. They often get depressed when they are not the center of attention and are at increased risk for suicidal gestures. When they are in a relationship, they may imagine the relationship to be more intimate in nature than it actually is. The main signs and symptoms can include:

·        Provocative interactions and theatrical expressions

·        Emotional expressions are vague, shallow and lacking in detail

·        A false sense of intimacy

·        Very flirtatious or seductive

·        Easily influenced by other people’s suggestions and opinions

·        Very flamboyant

·        Constantly seeking attention of others

·        Come off as disingenuous and insincere
